We'll Be Back

MuNu isn't dead, just pining for the fjords. When I'm done putting 10,000 volts through it, it will voom good as new.

There doesn't seem to be any way to sticky posts, so I kicked this into the middle of next week.

(If you were looking for something other than MuNu, such as a forum or a portal site, then it was hosted on the MuNu server and will be back along with everything else as soon as we can possibly manage it.)

  • I'm still at work and don't have everyone's email address. I'll be sending out a bulletin as soon as I get home.

Maybe I could get Instapundit to post a message...

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 12:49 AM

  • Hahahahahahahah. Instawho?

By Blogger null, at 1:03 AM

  • Well, I sent him an email, so we'll see. :)

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 1:12 AM

  • What the heck is a MuNu?!

By Blogger The Black Raven, at 1:12 AM

  • MuNu is, um, was and will be, the bestest thing on the net!

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 1:13 AM

  • Well, one of Evil Glenn's cohorts has posted on this unfortunate incident. She has magical powers;-)

By Blogger null, at 1:18 AM

  • Huh? Where?

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 1:23 AM

  • Oh, there!

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 1:26 AM

  • Damn & I had assurances that yestersay would have been the day I broke 3 million unique visitors - I now, sounds kinda propoesterous since I'm sitting at about 85,000 but I had assurances I tell ya! :P

Pixy, I do appreciate all the work you're doing to get us up & running again. Course I also appreciate everything you did to keep us up & running before.

One thing though - any chance you could give me the lowdown like my knowledge of PC's, the net & servers was pre-jurassic? All i can really gather is something really bad happened to one of th things that make us go & we don't go anymore right now :P

Any ETA on when things will be up again? & is there anything any of us can do to help &/or maybe avoid this kinda thing in the future? Just ask & I'll do whatever I can.

    thanks again Pixy

  • While you're redecorating, would you *please* consider putting a tip jar up at Munuviana?

    Ted

By Blogger Ted, at 3:20 AM

  • I'm also accepting TrackBacks to MuNu backup sites (free TrackBacks, no reciprocal link asked), for those MuNu sites that have them (similar to Confederate Yankee).

By Blogger Basil, at 4:25 AM

  • Hey Pixy,
I'll offer up my site for munuvians who want to post...y'all can email me and I'll set you up.

Register here for my site, and after you email me I'll upgrade you so you can post.

And YEAH, Pixy, ya need a tip jar somewhere!

By Blogger Beth, at 4:41 AM

  • Also, It'sAPundit is accepting TrackBacks to MuNu backup sites.

And I'll also open basil's blog and It'sAPundit to any Munuvian for posting. But some of you already have author accounts, so post already! If you don't have one, send me an e-mail from the "contact" link on the site.

By Blogger Basil, at 5:10 AM

  • Yay! You can find me hanging with Evil Glenn over at that other site for a while!

By Blogger The Bobo Knitter, at 5:13 AM

  • Pixy,

Please let me know if I can help.

And thanks for taking care of everything for all your dependents.

  • What about starting a blogroll here so that our readers can be redirected to backup sites?

By Blogger Unknown, at 6:11 AM

  • By the way, who got Farked?

By Blogger Simon, at 6:20 AM

  • This post was made in the future, kewl! You really do know something about the Perpetual Motion machine. 8^)

By Blogger Tre Pryor, at 6:22 AM

  • I'm copying basil's idea; if you've got a backup site, send a trackback (no link required) to

Pixy I'm keeping you in my thoughts, prayers and I'm sending you lots of positive energy.

By Blogger Journey, at 6:31 AM

  • I've heard rumors that this is all Bush's fault, you know...

By Blogger Ogre, at 6:36 AM

  • I got FARKED on Sunday and I was using my new template which was a serious bandwidth hog. Thanks to Phin, though, I now have a new-new template which is much faster and less of a hog. As luck would have it, we implemented the new template one day after the FARKING.

Once there is a tip jar I'll try to spread some of this crazy blog money to Pixy.

By Blogger Unknown, at 6:44 AM

  • pixy if there's anything I can do to help let me know.

Yay! to the tip jar for pixy.

and by the way I think it's a Rovian Conspiracy that will eventually be blamed on Frank J and the crowd over at IMAO.

By Blogger phin, at 7:00 AM

  • Rusty - it reminds me of the one and only time I got a Sully-lanche...only for mu.nu to crash for about 24 hours straight afterwards.

Is there a link between getting a link from high traffic sites and these crashes? I prefer to believe it is the first step to subvert the coming dominant Munuviana paradigm in blogging. But that's just me.

By Blogger Simon, at 7:29 AM

  • So, Blogger is my back-up site. Well that sucks.

By Blogger Stacy, at 7:41 AM

  • Who was it that got farked? I got Rightwingnewsed.

We are victims of our collective success.

Pixy Misa, thanks for allsyou have done and continue to do.

Oh and I'm all backed up on blogger.
    See?
    Yippee!

By Blogger Spacemonkey, at 7:54 AM

  • Is there a link between getting a link from high traffic sites and these crashes?

Hell, Rusty and Ace ARE the high-traffic sites. I'll bet phin broke it when he was fixing Rusty's template. ;-)

    (running away...)

By Blogger Beth, at 8:04 AM

  • Went to get my Annika fix, and found out about the anomalies...altered states...whatever you want to call it. So I had to do my own American Skankwoman research.

Since Annika's off-line, I'll take advantage of the situation (evil me) and trumpet the virtues of Boy George (rather than Elton John) as U.N. Secretary General.

However, I still hope that munu is back up soon.

By Blogger Ontario Emperor, at 8:46 AM

  • .. we got an estimated time yet?...

... keep up the good work, Pixy...

By Blogger Eric, at 8:59 AM

  • I second Beth's notion and lay the entire episode on the back of Phin. It's all Phin's fault.

    Must. Kill. Phin.

Please gather pitchforks, torches, tar, and feather...........

By Blogger Unknown, at 9:04 AM

  • Oh, and BTW, Jawa backup

    mypetjawa.blogspot.com

By Blogger Unknown, at 9:05 AM

  • Eric, way to lay on the pressure.

It'll be up when its's up.

Write your posts in Word and hold your water.

By Blogger Spacemonkey, at 9:42 AM

  • Yay I'm a scapegoat!

And all this time my parents were worried I'd never amount to anything.

By Blogger phin, at 9:54 AM

  • Actually Spacemonkey, it's better to write posts in Notepad or Wordpad and save them as .txt files; MS Word likes to convert some characters into garbled crap and it doesn't work well in HTML.

By Blogger Mad Mikey, at 10:00 AM

  • ... no pressure there, spacemonkey... just asking a question...

.. and I'm holding my water just fine, thanks... so back up, brother..

By Blogger Eric, at 10:09 AM

  • MWAHAHAHAHA!

ALL YOUR BLOGS ARE BELONG TO US!

And Blogger just keeps ticking away.

    Oh, the humanity...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:11 AM

  • 'All your blogs are belong to us'?

    LMAO

By Blogger Mad Mikey, at 10:24 AM

  • Are we actually getting comment spam on this site?

By Blogger Unknown, at 10:51 AM

  • Yeah. Nuts, isn't it? I might turn on the capcha thingy.

My the way - nice pic, Mikey.

Oh, and did anyone notice that Flying Space Monkey has the same initials as Flying Spaghetti Monster? Behold his noodliness!

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 10:58 AM

  • That's awesome. I guess publicity breeds spam.

Huh. THAT's where spam comes from....

By Blogger Caltechgirl, at 10:58 AM

  • Yeah, the message is down and I get a directory where my homepage was.

By Blogger Unknown, at 11:12 AM

  • Geez...i go away on vacation and come back to nothing! No one to play with!

I feel so cold and empty without my munu friends....

By Blogger pam, at 11:13 AM

  • The emergency message was running out of the ram disk because the hard disk was screwed, so when they shut the machine down to fix it, it lost the message.

    It's back now. :)

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 11:21 AM

  • And yeah, it's a good thing! It was taking five to ten minutes to edit that message (a sign of how bad things were), and now it's instantaneous.

    Yay!

Things should be back up very soon now!

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 11:25 AM

  • Yay we're back!

    pixy ROCKS!!!

beth, rusty, y'all aren't still plannin' on lynching me are ya???

By Blogger phin, at 11:29 AM

  • Oh you did it, Pixie! Yay and Thank you!!!

By Blogger pam, at 11:34 AM

  • The DOS attack didn't trigger a drive failure.

What happened was that we got a small-but-annoying DOS attack that the server would have normally been able to cope with, but with the drive acting up it was a bit too much.

It looks like the drive started playing up on the weekend, but at first it was only every now and then - once or twice an hour - which made it hard to work out what the problem was.

By today it was giving errors several times a minute, which was kind of obvious.

By Blogger Pixy Misa, at 11:34 AM

  • I forgot to turn comments on - fixed now. It was one of the things I tried before working out that it was a hardware problem.
